Lessons Learned

Posted on December 27th, 2010 in Behind The Designer

Hi Everyone,

I was enjoying the remnants of our Christmas snow when I decided to share with you a book that has touched my life forever. Not only was the snow so awesome on Christmas Day, but this book was equally amazing! I had the wonderful opportunity of reading the classic, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Read this! 🙂

This book taught me many lessons; lessons that I plan to take with me and apply to everything I do.

Lesson #1: Put yourself into the other person’s shoes

In every situation there are always two sides. We have all had bad days, but what we sometimes forget is that there’s always someone on the other end. When we step into their shoes we are able to see the world with new eyes and new perspectives.

Lesson #2: There are one kind of “folk”

We as human beings often want to stereotype each person based on many reasons. When we view people as a whole, we realize that we are so much alike! Each person has a touch of uniqueness. Within each of us there is a talent. The part that we often seem to skip is that we ALL have talents and just because you are good at something doesn’t mean I have to be good at it. There should be a level of respect for each person for who they are. Be yourself and be proud of it!

I know that these are just a couple of the many lessons from this book. They impacted me so much! I wanted to express my feelings about something that has truly added to the person I am.

How can I relate this to my design business? Well, whenever meeting with clients, I respect that they are each their own person. They have wants and feelings just like you or I. They are the ones who are helping make Designs by Malyse successful. Everyone has ideas and as a designer I am open to them. By stepping into their view of things I have found that I can use this as inspiration because each person is unique, just like my designs.

So, read To Kill A Mocking Bird. I know it can impact you like it has me. Remember, you are unique and talented in your own right. Be proud of YOU and embrace your uniqueness!
